What’s with the ring thing?

MANY MAGICIANS HAVE CONTACTED ME  to ask what is the ring on cord effect that is shown  in the heading to this online magazine.

It is a routine I devised over ten years ago based on a basic idea that I purchased from Bob Little, the U.S. magic dealer. Quite simply the ring is quite openly placed on the cord and without any covering is pulled free. This is repeated a number of times.

The climax is quite visual in which the ring is held twelve inches away from the cord and thrown through the air only to pass onto the cord without any covering. It’s very strong visually and startling and I have used this hundreds of times as an opener on banquet tables and at mix and mingle events.

The ring I use is gold plated which I use as a ruse to approach a table and ask if anyone has lost a gold wedding ring. On receiving a negative answer I then show the two inch ring which raises a chuckle and then remark “Actually it’s my wife’s wedding ring – she came from a big family” I then go into the full routine.

It’s been pure gold for me for over ten years and is something I always carry with me as it can be done impromptu and can fit into any occasion. I published this routine under the name “Staggering” which it certainly is.

  1. I see that you ,made reference to Arthur Dowler I believe that he is my husbands Grandfather as we have a phot o of him performing magic. Do you know if he was a member of the magic circle? Any information would be most interesting to my children.
