HERE’S A GREAT PIECE OF PUBLICITY MAGIC that I have used with great effect in heightening my awareness and getting bookings.

I have a publicity card, postcard size with my picture (portrait) on one side and action pics and details on the reverse. I cut one of the cards in half and on the face of the smaller card I sketch in with a marker pen a moustache/beard or what you will on my face.

I then place the half card back in position and place a wide rubber band across the join in the two cards a la Out to Lunch. When I finish a show and give out business cards I say to a spectator “Would you like to have one of my cards – you are now in my fan club” and shown the face of the stack of cards with the altered face in view.

They will always say “Oh but you have a moustache in the photo” and you say “Ah – but that was before my Botox!” Ask them to write their initials across your forehead in the photo, turn the stack over, pull out the initialled card leaving the fake half still retained by the rubber band  and give it to them face down.

Then watch their face as they turn over the card bearing their signature but now with a photo of a clean shaven magician.

This has paid me big dividends.
